We Pop The Corn, a minority owned business enterprise, dba Detroit Popcorn Company, has received $500,000 of expansion capital from Grow Michigan, according to an announcement made today by Grow Michigan CEO Patrick O’Keefe.
“Grow Michigan is designed to help provide capital to businesses in Michigan seeking to expand their facilities and grow Michigan jobs,” said O’Keefe. “We are also focusing our efforts on providing underserved minority businesses access to capital that has been historically difficult to obtain. We are pleased to back the efforts of Ken Harris and Reggie Kelley, owners of We Pop The Corn, who have strong ties in the Detroit community and are committed to growing this iconic Detroit brand.”
Founded in 1923, Detroit Popcorn Company, located on the Detroit-Redford border, specializes in selling a variety of ready-to-eat snack foods direct to consumers and commercial customers through their retail store front and online. The Company also provides products directly to theaters, grocery stores, and fundraising programs in southeast Michigan; selling concession stand supplies including popcorn, cotton candy, nachos, frozen drinks, corndogs, candy apples, and more. In addition, they sell, rent, and service concession equipment.
The new capital will facilitate the Company’s growth into new markets.
